Wisdom for the Road Less Traveled
As I woke up this morning, Robert Frost’s famous lines were running through my mind, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
Since first hearing this poem I have always related to Frost’s traveler. I don’t know if he is talking about himself in the poem, but I too, have felt like my path has looked much different than those around me. In today’s world of social media, it is very easy to get swept up in the comparison game and wonder why my life doesn’t look like everyone else, but that’s the beauty of it; my life’s journey shouldn’t look like my neighbor’s. If you and I were to sit down over a cup of coffee and I told you my journey up to this point you may become dizzy with the many twists and turns that have been taken. But to go back to Frost’s poem, I took the road less traveled and it has brought me here, and for that I am truly grateful.
Reflecting on all the chaos that ensued last week when Hurricane Sally came through my adopted hometown of Mobile, Alabama, I continue to be amazed at the adventures I have lived through since moving here and the lessons the Lord has taught me through them all. Born and raised in Southern California, moving to the South has been not only a change of scenery, but it brought with it a change of pace. I thought I moved here for what appeared to be my dream job, but almost seven years and three jobs later I can now tell you it had nothing to do with the job and everything to do with what God wanted to do in and through me.
The journey has not always been easy, and there have certainly been some lonely stretches, but what has carried me through is God’s Word. “The Lord will keep the minds of those who hold firmly to Him in a place of peace because they place their trust in Him. So, trust in Him forever, because the Lord is the eternal Rock.” (Isaiah 26:3-4)
When I packed up my life and headed east on Interstate 10, I never could have imagined all that the Lord had in store! If I had known all that I would encounter I may not have had the courage to take the road less traveled, but that’s the beauty of any journey, you never know what might be just around the bend.
As a follower of Christ, I am called to walk a road less traveled, Matthew 7:14 says, “narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” My hope and prayer is to offer you encouragement on this road less traveled with the Wisdom for Life’s Journey verse set that includes 30 personalized passages providing a daily reminder to keep our eyes fixed on the Good Shepherd who will lead us down the road He has for each of us to take.
And as we take the road less traveled, may we see the difference it will make.
